What is Acne / Pimples? What causes them?

Acne or pimple is an inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous unit, i.e. the hair and sebum-producing gland, in the skin. These pilosebaceous units are found in great numbers in the face, chest and back of the body. Correspondingly, the common areas where acne occurs are also in these particular areas. Acne / Pimples forms in 4 stages:

(1) Overproduction of sebum (oil) in the pores;

(2) Formation of comedones (i.e blackheads and whiteheads) due to accumulation of sebum in the pores and shedded skin cells;

(3) Infection of nutrient rich sebum collection by bacteria Propionibacterium acnes; and

(4) Inflammation with formation of pus in pustules, nodules and cysts.

Acne / Pimple commonly starts at puberty, in the teenage years, but they can also start past the age of puberty in adulthood. Some suffer from acne way into their forties. No one knows why.

Acne / Pimple often causes people to feel defeated, depressed, devastated and embarrassed as they feel that their facial skin is un-presentable to the outside world. If you are reading this, you may already tried many over-the-counter products which are found on the shelves of various pharmacy, but nothing works.

At Tiffiny Yang Aesthetics & Surgery, we have necessary prescription medications and Laser / IPL treatments to effectively treat all forms of acne / pimples, whether the pimple / acne outbreak is on the face or back. The chest and back of the body is another place where acne / pimples can appear. Generally, treatment of acne on the back is similar to that of the face.

We are able to medically treat all your acne / pimple problem quickly and effectively.*

When should treatment from acne be sought?

Acne / pimple outbreak is one of the most easily treatable skin conditions. So, see us as soon as possible. It is not ideal to wait, since effective medical treatment is widely available and early treatment prevents the onset of acne scarring that can be difficult to treat.*

It is a Myth that all acne / pimple outbreaks, if left alone, will heal and go away automatically, leaving your skin as it was before. The Reality is that although acne / pimple may go away, acne may heal and form uneven or pigmented acne scars. Acne / pimples should be treated as soon as possible to prevent such scarring.

There are different types of treatments available, depending the type and stage of acne which can be classified as follows:

(1) Medical treatment in the form of creams or oral medication as prescribed by our doctors.

(3) Nodulocystic acne may improve faster with injections of bigger lesions with medication OR zapping them away with our RF machine.

(4) Laser and IPL treatments to reduce acne – light therapy may also be used to modulate behaviour of acne formation. It works by cleansing pores, reducing bacterial count and reducing sebum production over time. See below for more information.

(5) A combination of the above treatments may be considered for effective acne treatment, as well as modifications to your skincare regime and cosmetic use.

Like most other skin disorder treatment, acne treatment takes time. A typical regime may require weeks for some people and months for others before sufficient clearance and results can be seen.* This requires patience and a self-understanding of how acne forms and behaves.

Lasers / IPL for Acne Removal

The carbon laser peel is particularly effective* in treating active acne and clearance. It targets the specific pathways in acne formation so as to cure acne from the root of the problem.* We combine it with our anti-acne facial to control acne with the use of LED light therapy and IPL for acne removal.

An appropriate regime for your acne treatment can be prescribed by us and subsequently tailored according to your response.
